We pray for strength for Mariz. This morning her lab results showed elevated liver enzymes reversing a trend the day before. The frequency of required paracenteses has increased from once in 9 days to once in 2 days, both draining 4 liters of clear fluid. The SGPT levels spiked to nearly 2000 from 200. She has turned hyperkalemic and constipated. She has finally found relief at 9PM with help of laxatives. She is not in any significant pain but increasingly more labored. Mariz has always counted her blessings, she thanks God for his love and always remembers the love of her family and friends. She especially thanks God for Jess and Lica always beside her. She has bruises showing on her abdomen and arms, said to be signs of her liver failing and the ascites seeping into her soft tissue. Dr.Vukelja has been such a great physician understanding the needs of her patient beyond the physical. One more blessing during this delicate time is the exemplary care from Trinity nurse Courtney and PCA Rosie. They provide such great care and empathy to the patient and family and shown great compassion preserving Mariz's dignity even as her condition has rapidly changed. We continue to pray that her journey will be a peaceful one. God is good. Ralph

  2. ralph, this is ate nell. mariz has long accepted my nickname "marikit" for her. and these weeks and the past few days made me think, as i told my mom and sisters and your sangko yesterday, that it is an apt name for her. kung sa tagalog pa, ang kanyang kabuuan ay umaapaw sa kariktan.

peter had expressed his wonder that mariz cannot stop counting her blessings and being thankful for them.

please tell her, as you hug her happy birthday for ranjee and me, that it is she who is the blessing, to all of us! her indomitable spirit is a challenge to anyone who falters in faith at the trials of life.

she is always in our thoughts and prayers. as she celebrates her birthday today, we join her in thanking god for the blessings in life.

love you so much, marikit! happy happy birthday! god bless you always!
